Cartes de Visite
The carte de visite, or CDV, is one of the older examples of photography.
Mounted on a 2.5" x 4" card, CDVs date from the mid-1850s and reached the peak
of their popularity in the mid-to-late 1860s.

Cabinet Cards
The cabinet card was the next generation of the carte de visite. Larger, at
4.25" x 6.5", cabinet cards quickly surpassed CDVs as the most popular form of
photography. Most popular from the 1870s-1890s.

Tintypes
Tintypes were produced on thin sheets of iron. Their relatively low cost and
quick production time made them a favorite from the 1850s-1880s and beyond.
