Cartes de Visite
The carte de visite (or CDV): one of the oldest examples of photography.
Generally mounted on a 2.5" x 4" card, CDVs date from the mid-1850s,
reaching the peak
of their popularity in the mid-to-late 1860s.

Cabinet Cards
The cabinet card was the next generation of the carte de visite. Larger, at
4.25" x 6.5", cabinet cards quickly surpassed CDVs as the most popular form of
photography. Most popular from the 1870s-1890s.

Tintypes
Tintypes were produced on thin sheets of iron. Their relatively low cost and
quick production time made them a favorite of the general public from the 1850s-1880s and beyond.

Postmortem and Mourning Photography
We will occasionally offer original postmortem images in this section. Some of
these photos are duplicates (not reproductions!) of images in the Archive.
Others we just do not have the room for.
