Large Extended Family Photo Collection
Great collection of cased photos, albums, and tintypes of one big extended family.

Names represented in this collection are Ridgely, Eliason, Clayton, Todd, Talbot, Lloyd, Giles, Merryman, Von Reisen, Sockwood, and Francis. The main two names seem to be Ridgely and Eliason, with the rest of the names being cousins, aunts, uncles. It is not clear what relation Giles and Lloyd is to Ridgely-Eliason, however, Lloyd and Giles are always shown posing with Eliasons.

Relation of families is shown by many handwritten notes and identifications on the photos or in the pages of the albums. For example, a 1/6 ambrotype of a woman with a child on her lap is identified as such:

"Joshua Ridgely, father of Katherine Eliason, on lap of mother Mary Catherine Todd Ridgely"

and:

"Aunt May and Uncle Harry Clayton who raised the Sockwood children"

In total there are 70 photos in the collection, broken down as follows:

Album 1: Twelve double-sided pages, 20 CDVs, 2 tintypes
Album 2: Ten double-sided pages, 18 CDVs, 1 tintype

Two 1/6 cased daguerreotypes
One 1/6 cased ambrotype
Two 1/6 cased ruby ambrotypes
Six 1/9 cased ambrotypes
Eleven loose tintypes (most in paper frames; most identified)
Six loose CDVs
One CDV in 1/4 plate size frame, behind glass

Condition
Overall, this lot shows normal wear. Some of the ambros could use a little cleaning of the glass and/or a new black background cloth put behind them. Easy fixes. Most of the cases have split spines and all but one have both halves. Some cases are damaged.

The albums are in generally fine condition and are a real treasure. Both albums are intact with no loose or missing pages and both albums have their locking clasps. Minimal small tears on some pages. The top layer of leather on the spine of one album is missing but does not affect the stability of the album.

Please contact the site owner if you have any questions on this great lot.
